Growing Greener: Issaquah Middle Recognized as a King County Green School

Under the leadership of Dr. Green (AKA Kurt Wieland), the IMS Green Team continues to be recognized for its conservation efforts. IMS first participated in the King County Green Schools Program in 2005 and has been recognized as a Sustaining Green School since 2014. IMS served as a model for other schools in the district by piloting food scrap collection and continues to be a leader in environmental stewardship and resource conservation.

This year, we increased our recycling and composting percentage, installed a nature trail on the north edge of the campus with painted plant identification stones, put in this year's vegetable garden, and removed invasive Scotch broom and Himalayan blackberries from local trails and along roads by the school. We have also done several campus clean-ups and removed litter from the neighborhoods near IMS.
